Most politicians tell you what they are going to do. I have already done it.I left a lucrative government contracting career in IT and cybersecurity because our school system needed real technology leadership, and I had the expertise to help.

Systems Mindset

I also bring that same real-world perspective to housing and affordability as a working REALTOR in St. Mary's &amp; Calvert County every single day. I am not studying the housing crisis from a distance. I am sitting across the table from it.

Local SOMD Realtor

I also serve as President of the GMHS Band Boosters, not because it helps my resume, but because I believe in showing up for this community in every way I can. I am not new to Southern Maryland and I am not new to getting things done here.

Helping our Kids

I am not becoming someone different by running for office. I am just being more visible about who I already am. Anyone who has interacted with me in my personal life or professional life can already attest to that.

I know how to read a system, find the vulnerabilities, and FIX them. That's exactly what I'll bring to Annapolis: a no-nonsense, solutions-first approach to the issues that affect working families in Southern Maryland every day.

Southern Maryland does not need more businesses. It needs better ones. Not all economic growth is equal. A community that simply lets anything open anywhere is not thriving -- it is just filling square footage.Real economic development means attracting and supporting businesses that create careers, develop skills, keep dollars circulating locally, and actually improve the quality of life for residents. We should be asking what this business does FOR our community -- not just what it does IN our community.I will advocate for zoning reform, business incentive programs that reward investment in community wealth, and a development strategy that prioritizes businesses that hire locally, pay fair wages, and give our young people a reason to stay in Southern Maryland.

JW Abney Meet and Greet

First meet and greet. April 30. Lexington Park Library. No scripts. No politics as usual. Just real talk with the local Realtor, IT Professional, and Husband and father running for District 29C.

Housing prices in Southern Maryland have gone up dramatically. Salaries have not kept pace. The result is that working families, people who are employed, contributing to this community, doing everything right -- are still falling behind.As a REALTOR working with first-time homebuyers in St. Mary's &amp; Calvert County every day, I am not reading about this problem in a report. I am sitting across the table from it. I work with couples where both partners are employed, one on base, one in the community, and they still cannot find housing that is suitable and affordable. That is a policy failure, not a personal one.I will fight for policies that make homeownership and stable housing accessible to working families, not just those who already have wealth. Southern Maryland should be a place where the people who serve and work here can actually afford to live here.

That is not enough. A licensed electrician, a master plumber, a hair stylist, a skilled IT technician like I started out as; these are not fallback options. These are careers that power our communities and pay living wages.I will advocate for expanded trade and vocational programming, stronger partnerships between our schools and local industries, and pathways that give every student a real shot at a successful future on their own terms.

Not every student is college-bound, and that is not a failure. It is a reality we have ignored for too long. Southern Maryland needs more pathways for students who want to build careers with their hands, their skills, and their technical expertise.
